Notes:Canción de Autor with Mauricio Callejas
Join singer-songwriter Mauricio Callejas and his band for a special evening of Latin American songs.
Active in Austin’s vibrant music scene since 2002, Callejas will perform original songs from his own catalog, while also taking you on a musical journey through Latin America’s Nueva Canción movement — a popular genre of socially aware folk music from the 1960s to the 1980s.
This special concert is part of a global celebration of the Second International Day of Canción de Autor, an initiative led by the Centro Lucini de la Canción de Autor in Granada, Spain.
Come and join us for our first “Descarga” on October 24 at The Rosette. I am launching a new concert series inspired by the Cuban tradition of gathering musicians to improvise and “discharge” creativity.
Our first guest in the series is the talented violinist Daniela Padrón. Daniela will present her new show, “Confessions of a Violinist”, a musical dialogue in which she and her violin share stories that will leave you in awe—and with a smile.
At the end of the show, Daniela will join host Mauricio Callejas for a spontaneous descarga featuring guitar, violin, songs, and audience participation.
More about our guest: Daniela is a Venezuelan-American violinist from Caracas, currently based in Miami, Florida since 2012. She has received two Latin Grammy nominations: one in 2013 for Best Folk Album and another in 2022 for Best Instrumental Album. Her music blends Venezuelan folk roots with classical and modern pop sounds.
Daniela Padrón has performed as a guest violinist in live concerts and recordings with notable artists such as Willie Colón, Rosario, Lolita Flores, Soledad Bravo, Aymée Nuviola, Frank Quintero, César Muñoz, and many more.
